Capital Hilton’s downtown location puts guests in the heart of it all near, DC’s best attractions and places to visit. Among the historic backdrop of memorials and museums, downtown is bustling with restaurants, boutique shops, theatres and a vibrant nightlife scene.

Landmark Washington, DC Attractions

White House

Public tours of the White House are available through a request to one’s Member of Congress, submitted up to six months in advance and no less than 21 days in advance. The adjacent Ellipse is the park south of the White House, and is used for seasonal events, including the National Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.

The White House also hosts a weekend Garden Tour of the South Lawn, once in the fall and once in the spring, as well as the famous Easter Egg Roll. Both events are free and open to the public, however a ticketed entry must be obtained. Tickets to the Easter Egg Roll are done through an online lottery system.

Washington’s iconic Capitol Building serves as a meeting place for the nation's legislature and stands as one of the great American symbols. The new U.S. Capitol Visitor Center provides excellent guided tours, focused on the art and history of the neo-classical building.

Washington Monument

The best views of Washington, DC can be seen from the top of the 555-foot Washington Monument. Admission is free but requires a ticket. Ticket office opens at 8:30 a.m. for same day, timed tickets. One person may pick up as many as six tickets, or for $1.50 per ticket, reserve tickets in advance through the NPS website and pick up tickets at will call at the base of the Monument.

April through September is peak season and tickets are generally reserved months in advance.

The most visited destination in DC, visitors are awed by the classic Beaux-Arts building, and stay to shop and eat in the mall.

Lincoln Memorial

Built to resemble a Greek temple and adorned with two murals representing the principles of freedom, justice, unity, brotherhood, and charity, the impressive Lincoln Memorial is one of the city’s best-known icons. It houses a 175 ton statue of the 16th US President, and two large tablets - one inscribed with the famous Gettysburg Address and the other inscribed with Lincoln’s second inaugural address.

The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial is an ambitious and moving memorial to the longest-serving American President, who led Americans out of the Great Depression with the New Deal, and through World War II to victory.
